<p>First an incredibly big thank you to <a title="http://openplans.org/contact/" rel="nofollow" href="http://openplans.org/contact/">The Open Planning Project office (TOPP)</a> &#8211; <a href="http://twitter.com/TOPPLabs" target="_blank">@TOPPLabs,</a> and Sophia Parafina, <a href="http://twitter.com/spara" target="_blank">@spara</a>,  for organizing, hosting,  sponsoring and providing so much inspiration for this event.</p>
<p>There is an incomplete list of attendees below, and there were about 70 people at one point watching the Ustream (thank you <a href="../../tridarras.com/#http://www.dimitridarras.com/images/dd_work.jpg" target="_blank">Dimitri Darras</a> and friend &#8211; sorry I missed getting your card!) for setting this up.</p>
<p>There were at least ten or more people participating in a live skype conference moderated by Sophia with great skill.</p>
<p>I am sorry I didn&#8217;t get everyone&#8217;s contact info.  But please feel free to add you name into the comments of this post if I have missed you out.</p>
<p>After a gearheady morning, we spent the afternoon and evening brain storming the &#8220;The Big ARNY&#8221; &#8211; &#8220;a collaborative game development project modeled after a <a href="http://aswarmofangels.com/" target="_blank">Swarm of Angels</a>.&#8221;</p>
<p>Some of the morning tech discussion highlights included:</p>
<p>*skype presentations on <a href="http://arwave.wiki.zoho.com/HomePage.html" target="_blank">AR Wave</a> from <a href="http://www.lostagain.nl/" target="_blank">Thomas Wrobel</a>, <a href="http://www.joelamantia.com/" target="_blank">Joe Lamantia, </a><a href="http://matthieupierce.com/" target="_blank">Matthieu Pierce</a>.</p>
<p>*the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4HmYQPejFk">beginnings of an iphone client</a> from the <a href="http://code.google.com/p/pygowave-server/" target="_blank">PyGoWave</a> Crew.</p>
<p>*discussing <a href="http://www.microvision.com/wearable_displays/index.html" target="_blank">Microvision</a>, Augmented Reality eyewear &#8211; and trying out<a href="http://twitpic.com/s9zjt"> Nomad Unit</a> courtesy of <a href="http://augmentation.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">Noah Zerkin</a>, @NoaZark</p>
<p>*an awesome deep dive into the code of the <a href="http://www1.cs.columbia.edu/~ohan/" target="_blank">open Goblin XNA VR/AR platform</a> &#8211; courtesy of <a href="http://www.cs.columbia.edu/~ohan/" target="_blank">Ohan Oda</a> (pic below) <a href="http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/2719336" target="_blank">video of presentation here</a>.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.ugotrade.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/ohanodapost.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-5016" title="ohanodapost" src="http://www.ugotrade.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/ohanodapost-300x199.jpg" alt="ohanodapost" width="300" height="199" /></a></p>
<p>Ori Inbar<a href="http://gamesalfresco.com/2009/12/05/live-from-nyc-augmented-reality-dev-camp/" target="_blank"> live blogged the morning sessions on Games Alfresco. </a></p>
<p>But, during the afternoon, Ori presented, and we all got so caught up in the brainstorming of  &#8220;The Big ARNY Game&#8221; that live blogging, skyping, and twittering ground to a near halt.   The &#8220;meat space&#8221; (perhaps the slide show captures some of  incredible coolness of the location) was alive with brilliant ideas that were matched by an incredibly high level of technical input &#8211; see the AR DevCamp attendees list below.</p>
<p>During the game session we really had a master class in augmented reality tech.   <a href="http://www1.cs.columbia.edu/~feiner/" target="_blank">Steven Feiner&#8217;s</a> awesome discussion of markers really opened my mind to exploring markers in a new way.  And the geolocated data discussion with Sophia Parafina, <a href="http://www.maploser.com/?page_id=6" target="_blank">Kate Chapman,</a> <a href="http://phil.ashlock.us/" target="_blank">Philip Ashlock</a>,  and Steve Feiner at dinner was very interesting.  The opportunity to break out into smaller in depth discussions during the day was one of the valuable opportunities of AR DevCamp, so I can&#8217;t possibly mention them all.  But thank you everybody!</p>
<p><a href="http://www.ugotrade.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/BigARNYpost.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-5005" title="BigARNYpost" src="http://www.ugotrade.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/BigARNYpost-300x199.jpg" alt="BigARNYpost" width="300" height="199" /></a><a href="http://www.ugotrade.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/ardevcampnycpost.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-5013" title="ardevcampnycpost" src="http://www.ugotrade.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/ardevcampnycpost-300x199.jpg" alt="ardevcampnycpost" width="300" height="199" /></a></p>
<p>We did have some fun with low tech AR too &#8211; courtesy of Thomas Wrobel &amp; Bertine van Hövell, <strong><a href="http://www.lostagain.nl/" target="_blank">Lost Again</a></strong> (their business card is the coolest AR card I have seen to date).  In the pic on the right, I try out their business card/AR overlay on @comogard as he presents.  The lighting does not do the overlay justice in my photo (on right), but I think you get the idea at least.</p>
<p>Unfortunately we didn&#8217;t manage to hook up our afternoon live session with <a href="http://www.ardevcamp.org/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page" target="_blank">The Mountain View AR DevCamp</a>, as we lost the streaming laptop.  But hopefully we will be able to catch up on each other&#8217;s activities with session notes on the<a href="http://www.ardevcamp.org/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page" target="_blank"> AR DevCamp Wiki.</a> There is also a public wave,  <a href="https://wave.google.com/wave/#restored:wave:googlewave.com!w%252BTfPQziYJA" target="_blank">AR Dev Camp NYC Shared Notes</a>.</p>
<p><a href="http://www1.cs.columbia.edu/~swhite/" target="_blank">Sean White</a> set the afternoon off to a great start by collecting topics and organizing topics of interest on the board.  While we didn&#8217;t get time to cover everything, it was interesting how, by working on developing a collaborative game project, we had to tackle many of the topics suggested, and come up with workable approaches.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.ugotrade.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/Seanwhitenotespost.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-5006" title="Seanwhitenotespost" src="http://www.ugotrade.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/Seanwhitenotespost-300x199.jpg" alt="Seanwhitenotespost" width="300" height="199" /></a></p>
<p>Next weekend <a title="http://openplans.org/contact/" rel="nofollow" href="http://openplans.org/contact/">TOPP</a> <span><span> will host the <a href="http://opennyforum.org/2009/11/open-ny-summit-09/" target="_blank">OpenNY Summit &amp; Codeathon</a> on Dec 11 &amp; 12, an event &#8220;</span></span><span>produced by open government practitioners and volunteers.&#8221;  This would be another great place to explore some of the citizen 2.0 mobile, social AR game ideas that came up at AR DevCampNYC. In addition, Ori Inbar has started an <a href="http://www.meetup.com/ARNY-Augmented-Reality-New-York/">AR New York Meetup</a>.<br />
